THROWN
AND ALTERED PROJECT 2
Problem:
Create 30 pieces on
the wheel using the techniques of pushing in as well as out on the wet form.
Objective: Learn the basic techniques for
altering forms on the wheel during the wet stage. Become familiar with pushing
out from the inside of the form as well as pushing in from the outside of the
form to make physical alterations on the thrown form.
Strategy:
Make
several sketches of that explore variations in this type of altered, wheel
thrown form for expression of your personal aesthetic.
Produce
10 pieces that all have different variations on pushing in from the outside of
the form. Produce 10 pieces that all have different variations on pushing
out from the inside of the form. Produce
10 pieces that explore both variations in a single piece. 30 pieces total.
Instructions:
Discuss
the drawings you have made with your instructor before beginning
Pay
attention to the timing when deciding to add or join pieces.
All
pieces should employ the use of design relationships between lip, foot handle,
etc.
Your
pieces should display variations that include advanced forms possessing handles
and lids.
IMPORTANT:
-Do not
allow water to collect on the surface of the clay while throwing at any time.
-Consider
allowing your pieces to dry to the leather hard stage before making
alterations.
-Be bold
with the alterations you make so they have a dramatic effect on the forms you
produce.
